Agency Workers Unite!

In the run up to International Workers Day on May 1st I thought I’d share this e-mail from South East IWW that’s doing the rounds, calling for those concerned to contact an employment agency. The worker involved is from the south east.

Firstly a quick anarcho-syndicalist 101 to put it in context! Office Angels opitimise whats wrong with the the whole fucking system! Those who have nothing to sell in this capitalist system become wage slaves to the employing class, forced to work for a pittance with no benefits as they have nothing to sell but their labour. In the case outlined below they don’t even think the worker deserves the meagre payments they have earned. Our goal is an anarchist syndicalist system where  we work for ourselves and each other to ensure we all have enough. Office Angels wouldn’t really fit in to this system as the work they do is purely anti-working class, their company is there to benefit the employers, and exploit the workers on its books.

If you agree with whats underneath please follow it up, the more people that piss them off, the more likely it is that the chap will get paid. 2 Days pay is nothing to these vultures, but to a low paid worker it’s very important.

(If you end up in an argument with someone on the other end of the phone remember to refer to them as ‘your company’, the workers there dont get paid that much either….if you get to speak to the boss – give em hell!…good luck!) E-mail in italics……

Solidarity Federation are organising a campaign against this Office Angels employment agency after an ex-employee asked for their assistance.

Dan worked for Office Angels for three days in December of last year. He was assured by the company that the lack of a time-sheet would ‘not be a problem’. However, Office Angels are refusing to pay him the wages he is owed – falsely claiming he only worked for one day, despite them having called him at work on his third day. After completely ripping him off, they had the nerve to harass him for seeking advice on an internet discussion forum.

We are asking for our supporters and comrades across the globe to show solidarity with this campaign by phoning and emailing complaints TODAY  (Wednesday 20th April) to the branch that Dan was working for. The details are below:

Phone: 020 8542 6688 (international calls dial +4420 8542 6688)

Emails: wimbledon@office-angels.com

A template letter is below this email

Temporary workers face similar unacceptable conditions every day. They work without sick pay or maternity leave, are vulnerable to unfair and instant dismissals and have no union support. Rising unemployment and a bleak economic climate will force even more of us to accept these precarious conditions – yet another example of working class people being exploited by an economic system that only benefits the rich.

The best way to improve our conditions at work and in our communities is by standing together and resisting. We want to hear from any current or previous Office Angels employees that have come into conflict with this company and its culture of disrespect. We know that this is not an isolated incident and the more people get involved, the more pressure we can put on the company to start treating its workers properly.

Dear Sir/Madam,

It has come to my attention that Office Angels are refusing to pay a friend of mine who was recently employed by you.

This is totally unacceptable and I ask that you take steps to rectify it immediately.

Yours sincerely,

…. Good stuff i’m sure you’ll agree, I know the date for action was today but i only got the e-mail today! I’m going to call em tomorrow, keep the pressure on, I’ll post again when we win!
